Beinecke Scholarship Program
The Beinecke Scholarship Program is open to juniors who are planning to continue their studies at the graduate level. Students who plan to pursue a graduate degree in the arts, humanities, or social sciences are eligible. Students awarded the scholarship receive $4,000 upon completion of their undergraduate studies, and a $15,000 stipend for each of two years in graduate school for a total of $34,000. Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship
- Superior academic record and ability (above or approaching 3.9)
- Evidence of need-based financial aid during undergraduate studies. The primary evidence of this is a student’s history of receiving need-based institutional, state, or federal grants-in-aid. However, any student who has received any amount of need-based financial aid during their undergraduate years is eligible to be nominated. If you are not currently receiving need-based aid due to receipt of a merit award or tuition exchange, you must provide a statement from a financial-aid officer indicating how much need-based aid you would receive if you were not receiving support from the non-need-based source.
Application Process
Submit the following materials to the Center for Research and Fellowships via this Google form by the University endorsement deadline: February 2, 2024 at 12 PM (NOON – NOT MIDNIGHT)
- A completed Application Form.
- A Financial Data Sheet completed by a financial aid officer certifying that you qualify for need-based financial aid. (Please be sure to give the Financial Aid Office enough time to complete this sheet and either mail it to the Fellowship Office, or you can drop it off in hard copy.)
- 1,000 word personal statement describing your background, interests, plans for graduate study and career aspirations. The statement should include a discussion of some experiences and ideas that have shaped those interests, plans and aspirations.
- Your current resume (up to 2 pages)
- An official transcript from Parchment
- Three letters of recommendation from faculty members that assess your academic strength, intellectual curiosity, and potential for advanced graduate study (these can be emailed for the internal endorsement process. If you are nominated, we will need these letters in hard copy).
The Financial Aid Data Sheet and the official transcript should be either dropped off, or mailed in hard copy to: 3607 O Street NW, Center for Research and Fellowships, Georgetown University, Washington, DC 20057. All other materials should be emailed directly to fellowships@georgetown.edu. A University Committee will review the applications and nominate one candidate.
