George J. Mitchell Scholarship

The George J. Mitchell Scholarships were founded in honor of former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell who helped broker the historic peace accord in Ireland. The Mitchell Scholarship program seeks to foster ties between the US and Ireland by sponsoring post-baccalaureate study at any Irish university. Applicants are judged on three criteria: scholarship, leadership, and a sustained commitment to community and public service.

Mitchell Scholars may study any academic discipline offered in a degree or certificate program at one of eleven institutions of higher learning in Ireland. This includes the seven universities in the Republic of Ireland, two institutes in Dublin, and two universities in Northern Ireland (Queen’s University Belfast and the Ulster University).

Candidates do not need to apply separately to the graduate programs in Ireland.
